English Language Education Curriculum

Aims:

  • To develop students’ English language proficiency by providing ample opportunities to practice.
  • To arouse students’ interest in English learning through various meaningful task based activities
  • To help develop good reading and learning habits
  • To help students to build up their foundation in acquiring the four basic skills of English: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Characteristics:

  1. An authentic, fun and supportive environment is provide to students to learn English as well as boost their confidence in using English for communicative purposes.
  2. Different teaching strategies have been adopted, such as e-learning, self-directed learning, self-evaluation, inter-disciplinary thematic teaching, co-operative learning and high-order thinking questioning, to facilitate students’ learning and cater for learner diversity.
  3. School-based Reading-to-Writing program is used in KS1 and task-based approach is used for KS2 to further develop students’ creativity along with reading and writing skills.
  4. School is using PEEGS grant for P.2 to further develop our reading program and indulge students in reading.
  5. Reading across the Curriculum is used to interconnect learning with other learning subjects and further developing the language.
  6. Different activities are used throughout the year to strengthen and develop reading habits such as Extensive Reading Program, Afternoon Reading, Book Sharing, buddy reading, etc.
  7. E-Learning is used to provide opportunities to further motivate and enhance students’ learning.
